William "W.H." Watkins, 43, of Scottsville, VA., passed away on May 4, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Christine Watkins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Sheridan Funeral Home, 4626 Cedar Lane Road, Kents Store, VA 23084. Powell, Thomas "Tom" Franklyn

Thomas "Tom" Franklyn Powell, 70, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 21, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents Preston Powell and Julia Vandermark and one brother Preston "Bubba" Powell Jr. He is survived by his wife Judy Marie Powell, one daughter Stacey Marie Powell, one brother John Wayne Powell and his wife Ann, one sister Joyce Harris, one special nephew Sonny Powell, and various special nieces and nephews. Tom Joined the U.S. Air Force on 15 Feb 1968, as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician (Jet Aircraft over Two Engines) (B-52s and KC-135s). He served at various Air Force bases, to include U-Tapao, Thailand during the Vietnam War; Orlando AFB, FL; Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC; Castle AFB, CA; with his final transfer to Loring AFB, ME. While stationed at Loring, he met Judy M. Hebert, and they were married on 14 Apr 1985. He retired from the Air Force on 29 Feb 1988, and settled in Bangor, ME, eventually moving to Virginia in September 1991. He started working for the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) in Charlottesville on 09 Jan 1996. He then retired on 30 Sep 2015. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at Sheridan Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:00 am at Sheridan Funeral Home at 4626 Cedar Lane Road Kents Store, VA 23084.

Kerwick, Noel Anthony

On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, Noel Anthony Kerwick passed away at the age of 53. Formerly of Littleton, Co Tipperary, Ireland, Noel resided in Palmyra, Virginia. He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Noel was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Margaret, his brother James "Jimmy" and his sister Marie McCarthy. He is survived by the love of his life- his wife of 18 years, Carrie and his precious daughter and pride and joy, Margaret "Maggie" Slinkman Gary. He is also survived by family in his beloved home country of Ireland, his brothers Pat and his wife Marion, Michael and his wife Kitty, Gerard, and his sister, Majella Tobin and her husband Tom. In his American family, he is survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law James "Pop Pop" and Margaret Crawford, his sister-in-law Joyce "Kim" Feight and her husband William, his brother-in-law George "Jerry" Slinkman and his wife Vicki. And not to forget his many nieces and nephews he always lovingly referred to as the lads. Noel was born on January 20th 1966 in Co Tipperary, Ireland to Michael and Margaret "Peggie" Kerwick. He came to America at the age of 23 with $200 in his pocket, a 3-month Visa, and a dream. He was co-owner with his wife of From the Ground Up Landscaping where he worked with clients whom he came to call dear friends. He enjoyed his fishing trips and the annual Dark Star Orchestra outing with the guys. He loved family get-togethers, singing, and playing the guitar. Noel was intellectually, mechanically, and musically gifted. He knew a lot about everything and had the patience to teach you. He had an infectious Irish smile that spread across his entire face, an incredible gift of gab, and a knack for great craic. "Gud Luck, Gud Luck, Gud Luck…" A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 2nd at 2 pm at Effort Baptist Church, Palmyra. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Lake Monticello Fire and Rescue.

Her body will lie in repose at Sheridan Funeral Home in Kents Store, Virginia, from 12 noon until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Lake Christian Church in Palmyra, Virginia.

Herman Johnson Sr., 85, of Troy, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Herman was born on November 14, 1933, to Pearlie and Bernard Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Walker Johnson; six children, Donna (Jimmy) Loving, Herman Jr. (Kathy), Cindy (Tony) Gibson, Andy (Ellen), Jeffrey (Ginger), and Vanessa Thurston; 23 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Morris. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019, at Open Door Church in Troy, Virginia. A short graveside service will be held at St. Andrews Church in Keswick.

Corporal Daniel Frank Wagner, 36, of Palmyra, went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2019. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during Iraqi Freedom. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Rhoda Wagner. Daniel is survived by his mother, Leslie White Cosner and husband, Dilliard; his father, David Wagner and wife, Gina; his two children and the loves of his life Avery and Gunner, and their mother Mellisa; his brother, Jason Wagner and wife, Julia and their two children, Cassi and Lexi; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Frances "Tee" White, along with countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A visitation will be held at Fork Union Baptist Church on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m. A funeral will be held at Fork Union Baptist Church Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Daniels honor to the Wounded Warrior fund or the Antioch Baptist Church. Sheridan Funeral Home of Kents Store is handling the arrangements.

Evelene Mae McCoy, 95, entered eternal life on Thursday, March 7, 2019, surrounded by family at her home in Columbia, Virginia. She was born on May 9, 1923, in Fluvanna County, to the late John P. and Elizabeth Fowler Bland. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter and Charles Lee; and a sister who passed at a younger age. Left to cherish her memories are her brother, Horace Bland; two children, Jacqueline "Jackie" Henderson and Dwight McCoy; eight grandchildren, Alisa Henderson, Monica Sangare, Alvin Myers, Mashika McCoy, Daniela Henderson, Jimmie Henderson, Ruth McCoy, and Jonathan McCoy; five great-grandsons, Jemini Michel, Christopher Morrison, Joshua Henderson, Justin Sangare, and Jaydan Hargrove; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Evelene believed in being a self-made woman at a young age, so after graduating from Abrams High School, she went on to complete her two year degree at St. Paul's College, and upon graduating she opened her own beauty salon in Farmville, Va. She eventually relocated to New York, where she attended Metropolitan School of Infant and Geriatric Care when she became a Practical Infant and Geriatric Care Nurse. She later attended York College to become a Real Estate Agent. She was a woman of many talents and had a strong work ethic, which she instilled into her family. Upon her retirement, she returned home to her family home place in Fluvanna, where she lived out her golden years being a grandmother, an active member of the community and a member of her church choir. "She was a wonderful and resilient mother and grandmother and she is leaving a vacancy that can never be filled, she will be missed greatly; we love you Ma." Viewing will be held from 12 until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Sheridan Funeral Home. Frank "Archie" Archer Woodson, 72, of Kents Store, Va., died on February 11, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Jake Woodson. Archie worked at Sheridan Funeral Home in Kents Store since it was founded by Andrew Sheridan Sr. The Sheridan family would like to thank him and his family for a lifetime of friendship and support. Archie will lie in repose at Sheridan Funeral Home on Friday, February 15, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at West Bottom Baptist Church from 12 until 1 p.m. with a funeral service to follow.

Horace "Ed" Melton Jr., passed away peacefully on February 9, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born in Fluvanna County, in August 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace E. Melton Sr. and Lena M. Melton; and a brother, Cecil Ray Melton. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen A. Melton of 54 years; their three children, Judy of Fredericksburg, James "Jimmy" of Richmond, and Jennifer of Richmond, along with seven grandchildren. Also survived are his sister, Jane Dawson (Jack) of Callao, Va.; and sister-in-law, Cara Melton of Richlands, Va. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and good friend to many and all he met. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked for 34 years at Comdial and 5 years at National Optronics. He was a long-time member of Bybee's Road Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and Sunday School director. The family suggest in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bybee's Road Baptist Church or Hospice of the Piedmont in his memory. Family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Sheridan Funeral Home Kents Store. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019, at Bybee's Road Baptist Church.
