Food At South Shore Terrace Beer Garden?

BEER GARDENS ARE A MILWAUKEE favorite and a great way for eternal hoptomists to get outside for safe gatherings full of food, friends and family and fantastic brews. Many beer gardens, new and old, are open now, with new varying health and safety precautions. Here are some of our favorites:

1. South Shore Terrace

2900 SOUTH SHORE DR.

This spot in South Shore Park is perfect for an evening night, with plenty of outdoor space, games on the lawn and beautiful views of the Milwaukee skyline and Lake Michigan. A full bar menu includes burgers, salads and the like, plus gluten-free and vegetarian options.

2. Whitnall Beer Garden

8831 N. ROOT RIVER PKWY., FRANKLIN

This garden in the sprawling Whitnall Park has a rotating selection of 24 tap handles from local and regional breweries and numerous wine and non-alcoholic options. The on-site Gift of Wings Grill offers a menu of sandwiches, snacks and appetizers including offerings from Milwaukee Pretzel Co. This beer garden is family and pet-friendly with a large picnic area and a playground nearby.

3. The Landing at Hoyt Park

1800 N. SWAN BLVD., WAUWATOSA

Sip on some beer in style at the Wauwatosa Landing, located just steps from the Tosa Pool. All season long there will be rotating food trucks and live music. Heirloom MKE brings its "farm-to-truck" offerings on Wednesdays, while Thursdays feature Wilma's Smokehouse, a "rustic roadside" BBQ stand, and Hue Asian Kitchen brings its Asian-Mexican cuisine every Friday. The beer garden has an expansive menu full of local craft and imported beer – selections change regularly, giving repeat patrons something new to try each week.

4. Miller Time Pub and Grill

509 W. WISCONSIN AVE.

A wide-open, grassy beer garden right in the heart of Downtown? Yep, this new space in the "backyard" of the Miller Time and Hilton Milwaukee City Center fits the bill, and even hosts live music every Friday and Saturday from 5-9 p.m. The menu has something for everyone, both food and drink alike.

5. Estabrook Beer Garden

4600 ESTABROOK PKWY.

This garden sits atop a bluff just above the Milwaukee River's only natural waterfall in the metro area. Visitors may arrive by foot, kayak, canoe or car to try Estabrook's beers imported from the Munich Hofbräuhaus as well as local craft beer, ciders and hard seltzers. And Estabrook Park itself is a beautiful space equipped with trails, a playground, a dog park, a disc golf course and a river walk that will keep guests busy with something new each visit.

6. The Vine Humboldt

HUMBOLDT PARK, 3000 S. HOWELL AVE.

It's a beer garden, sure, but its name alludes to some unusual offerings: wine! The Vine features two red and three white wines on tap as well as Moscato and champagne splits, plus more typical craft beers, hard ciders and family-friendly options. Authentic empanadas from Triciclo Peru are available for purchase, but people are free to bring their own food, chairs, well-behaved dogs and yard games to keep the fun going in the heart of Bay View.

7. Traveling Beer Gardens

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

Beer on wheels, what could be better! The Traveling Beer Garden is two restored firetrucks converted into a mobile beer truck that travels between Milwaukee County Parks from May to September serving craft beer from Milwaukee Sprecher's Brewery and snacks. All profit goes back into improving the parks. Here is their schedule:

8. Hubbard Park Beer Garden

3565 N. MORRIS BLVD.

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this Shorewood beer garden strives to create a unique experience for all its guests. Open year round, Hubbard Park features beer garden cabanas, a full food menu and the Sunday Lumberjack Brunch Buffet. Items include a variety of sausage options, barbecue ribs, pretzels and the like – but also fish fry Wednesday through Sunday. For libations, there's a variety of German and domestic craft beer as well as wine and specialty drinks.

9. The Biergarten at Bavarian Bierhaus in Glendale

700 W. LEXINGTON BLVD.

As their website states, "Milwaukee's Original Biergarten is back and better than ever!" Old Heidelberg Park has been completely renovated with over 300 spread-out picnic tables and undercover seating. The diverse drinks menu includes house-brewed liters of beer, as well as imported selections and wines, ciders and seltzers. They also have a Usinger's Wurststand'l and Pretzel Hut for all of your savory needs. Live music is featured most days. Dinner specials include a typical Friday fish fry and an unusual one: Steckerlfisch: a rainbow trout fillet on a stick).
